Malibu Bluffs Park

Join the Ecological Restoration Association in learning about the Santa Monica Mountains’ Native Plants!

This Google MyMap, which you can access on your phone using the Google Maps app, will lead you to fifteen plant individuals which can commonly be found across different Coastal Sage Scrub communities. Follow along on this short, 1.3 kilometer trail to begin to recognize common plants such as Laurel sumac, California aster, amongst others. At the end of the trail, see if you can remember the plant identifications for the four quiz points we included!

For our first featured map, our Mapping Directors chose to highlight the trails managed by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy at the Malibu Bluffs Park. Visit the park yourself to experience the beautiful Coastal Sage Scrub plant community, learn about California’s native plants, and enjoy beautiful ocean breezes and views!

Our team worked together to make sure our ERA members can continue learning about native plants- even during a year of remote learning. The resources we produce are designed to be as instructive as possible and to inspire our members to continue to learn about conservation, ecology, and restoration. While we can’t safely gather and learn together like we have in the past, we’re still working to make sure we can all continue learning together while still maintaining safe social distancing.
