Stone Canyon Creek

Join the Ecological Restoration Association in learning about our restoration site!

This Google MyMap, which you can access on your phone using the Google Maps app, will lead you to sixteen different plant individuals. These plants may be either native or invasive to the local plant communities. A unique, yet unfortunate, aspect of this site is how disturbed the plant composition is- for this reason, ERA has taken on the challenge of restoring this site back to a riparian woodland habitat composed primarily of native species. Due to the global pandemic, instead of hosting our signature restoration events this year, we want our members to visit the site themselves and use this map to learn about the plant community at this site.

Follow along on this short walk to begin to recognize common invasives, such as Umbrella sedge and castor bean, and natives such as Toyon or Sambucus.

Our Mapping Directors chose to teach our members about the vegetation at our restoration site, Stone Canyon Creek. This site is right on the periphery of North Campus and is just a short walk away from Westwood!

Our organization considers Stone Canyon Creek to be one of UCLA’s greatest hidden gems- we recognize the tremendous potential that this riparian habitat has to offer in its both its proximity to campus and its educational opportunities. Whether you’re interested in learning about plants, wildlife, or restoration in general, Stone Canyon Creek is an incredible resource, right here on campus.
